Featured in this lot is a circas 1770s Revolutionary War era wooden camp canteen. The canteen features a wonderfully and professionally crafted wooden and wrought iron construction that shows segmented wooden planks with bands of wrought iron and a canteen plug. One of the rarest accoutrements of the Revolution, other than textile components, is the wood canteen. They were manufactured in great quantities, and wood construction was favored by both Colonial as well as British forces over the tin/metal examples. The condition of this Revolutionary War wooden canteen is well preserved with a iron strap missing and some slight wear to the wood but otherwise shows well preserved condition. The measurements of this barrel is 7 1/4" x 6 1/4" x 3 1/8". The collective weight of this canteen is 1lb.*
