This is an original circa 1884-1890’s collodion silver photograph of the Pulpit Terraces of Mammoth Hot Springs, Yellowstone National Park by A.H. Baumann. A.H. Bauman of Crawford, Nebraska shot in the manner of W.H. Jackson with this being a phenomenal photograph of Pulpit Terraces showing the running geyser pools of Mammoth Hot Springs in Yellowstone National Park in all its glory during the early years of the park in the 19th Century. The photo is marked “Photo by Baumann, Crawford, Neb.” The board is pressed in / marked “A.H. Baumann Crawford, NEB”. Mammoth Hot Springs is a large complex of hot springs on a hill of travertine in Yellowstone National Park adjacent to Fort Yellowstone and the Mammoth Hot Springs Historic District. It was created over thousands of years as hot water from the spring cooled and deposited calcium carbonate. In the 1860s through the mid-1880s, albumen was the dominate print format. The collodion printing out and gelatin printing out print processes overtook albumen in the mid-1880s. Handwritten on the reverse in fountain ink pen Yellowstone Park.
