This is an original circa 1898 Frank A. Rinehart and Adolph F. Muhr photograph portrait of Spies on the Enemy, a Crow Warrior of a nice large size. The photograph is signed in the negative, “Copyright 1898 F.A. Rinhart, Omaha. / Spies On The Enemy – Crow / No. 776”. This original silver gelatin photograph is a large mammoth size and is in the original antique quarter sawn oak and gilt wood frame. The image shows a portrait bust of Spies On The Enemy wearing a beaded war shirt adorned with ermine hides along with a split horn headdress war bonnet with beaded brow, beaded breast plate and gorget earrings. Frank Albert Rinehart (American, 1861-1928) was an American photographer who was commissioned to photograph Native Americans as part of the Indian Congress of the Trans-Mississippi and International Exposition held in Omaha in 1898. This portrait is from that series of photographs. Frame measures 17.5-inches by 16-inches. Visible photograph is 9-inches by 7.5-inches. This is truly a stunning image.
