The lot features a fantastic circa early-to-mid 1900 feathered head dress attributed to the Osage Native American Indians of Oklahoma. The collector noted the pieces as being from circa 1910, but some aspects of the piece appear to have been repaired, replaced or later. The piece is made of a felt cap liner, with darkened and dyed turkey feathers along with a beaded brown band done in colors of light blue and white with a classic Osage geometric pattern. There are strips of old red stroud clothe, trade beads, and eight long human hair drops attached. The original hide tie straps are still intact. There are some minor stains from use and old brown and green paints on the feather stems along with some parts of the felt. The entire headdress is in very good condition and comes with a custom display stand. The head dress was acquired at the Osage Indian Reservation at Pawhuska, Oklahoma and was likely used as a dance head dress during the middle reservation period. Provenance from the Ex-Dale Harrison collection.
