The lot features a set of hard sole Buffalo hide moccasins from the Blackfoot / Blackfeet of Montana with floral beadwork and from the ex-C.M. Russell Museum Great Falls, Montana and John Kleinschmidt collections. The set shows hard parfleche rawhide thick sole bottoms with sinew sewn thick Indian tanned Buffalo / Bison hide tops having a large folded over ankle. The tops and sides are adorned with early glass trade seed beads that are trade thread sewn showing colors of lilac, greasy yellow, medium green, and semi-transparent red. Original Buffalo hide ties. The set shows a nice foot worn pattern on the bottom and pliable supple hide on top. Dating to circa 1900-1920’s.
Provenance: From the John Kleinschmidt collection which was on loan to the C.M. Russell Museum from 1987 to 1993 and included in the "The Cowboy West: 100 Years of Photography 1992-1993 exhibit. Catherine A. O'Dell. An attached museum tag reads, "1396-87 O'Dell". Each measures 9.5-inches long sole by 4-inch high ankle with fold down by 4-inches wide. This was on display at the C.M. Russell Museum.
