This is an excellent early 1900's beaded flat bag from the Nez Perce Indians of the Plateau. The bag shows a thick trade canvas structure with inside calico trade clothe linning, thick green felt backing and red felt piped border. The beadwork is all period correct glass trade seed beads in a geometric pattern showing colors of chalk white, semi-transparent green, semi-transparent green, and a greasy salmon red. The beadwork is trade thread sewn and shows loss with the hide having a crack and loss to some of the felt edge. The bag is finely beaded with an excellent pattern and early age. Top has stiffened Indian tanned hide ties which are brittle. Measures overall without hide ties 9.25" by 8.5".
