For your consideration are two early Tahoe National Forest clothe boundary line signs from 1905-1910. Clothe original National Forest signs are exceedingly rare as most disintegrated completely. Tahoe National Forest is a United States National Forest located in California, northwest of Lake Tahoe. It includes the 8,587-foot peak of Sierra Buttes, near Sierra City, which has views of Mount Lassen and Mount Shasta. It is located in parts of six counties: Sierra, Placer, Nevada, Yuba, Plumas and El Dorado. It became a National Forest in 1905 when President Roosevelt combined the Yuba Forest Reserve with the Lake Tahoe Forest Reserve, forming the Tahoe National Forest. The smaller cloth sign reads, "Form 125 / National Forest." in black lettering. The larger cloth sign reads, "Form 117 / This Marks The West Boundary of the Tahoe National Forest" at the top in black lettering and was written by James Wilson, the Secretary of Agriculture. The sign gives rules and regulations to follow when in National Forest land. Both cloth signs show good condition overall with slight wear from their age and use over the years. No major signs of damage noted. Slight fraying on edges throughout. The smaller sign measures 7 7/8" L x 12 1/2" W, while the larger measures 15 5/8" L x 10" W. They have a collective weight of under 6 ounces.*
