For your consideration is this 1920-30s Orange Crush Soda bottle crate from Valdosta, Georgia. The Chicago, Illinois-based Orange Crush Company first introduced Orange Crush, a carbonated soft drink, in 1916. Clayton J. Howell, a chemist and salesman for the Ward Beverage Company, a producer of syrups for soft drinks, invented the beverage. The Orange Crush Company maintained its growth throughout the 1920s and 1930s, in part because of an effective marketing campaign that included catchphrases like "The Crush Is On!" and "Drink Orange Crush - For Life!" Additionally, the business added new flavors to its product lineup, including grape and lemon-lime. Due to a shortage of sugar during World War II, which was required for the war effort, Orange Crush production was temporarily halted. Nevertheless, the business resumed production following the war, and it kept growing throughout the 1950s and 1960s. Procter & Gamble bought the Orange Crush Company in 1960, and they marketed the product for many more years after that. As part of its acquisition of the Dr. Pepper Company in 1980, the British candy maker Cadbury Schweppes also acquired the rights to Orange Crush. Today, Keurig Dr. Pepper, the third-largest beverage company in North America, is the owner of Orange Crush.
