For your consideration is this collection of Montana postcards and memorabilia circa 1905-1950s. First in this lot are two Montana Chief Gasoline patches. Montana Chief Gasoline was marketed by and a product of the Inland Empire Refinery in Spokane,WA. The Spokane refinery was supplied with crude from Cut Bank, MT as well as Wyoming. The refinery, which was operated between 1939 and 1953, was processing 11,000 train cars of crude a year at the beginning of WWII. Inland's fuel was also marketed under the brands Washington Chief, Oregon Chief, and Idaho Chief in each of the three other states respectively. The patches show a Native American man wearing a feathered headdress and reads "Chief" in white lettering on a red background. The larger one measures a diameter of 7 2/8" and the smaller one measures a diameter of 2". The second piece of memorabilia is a 1942 Grizzly Gasoline sticker. An oil refinery in Montana called Northwest Refining Company made gasoline, diesel, and other petroleum products. The company produced the gasoline under the name Grizzly Gasoline, which was distributed at its gas stations in Montana and the surrounding area. The company was established in 1923, and up until the late 1950s, it ran the refinery and gas stations. The Montana Refining Company bought the Northwest Refining Company in the late 1950s, continuing to run the Cut Bank refinery while gradually replacing the Grizzly Gasoline brand with its own. The sticker shows a grizzly bear standing on its hind legs with its teeth bared. Below the grizzly it reads, "Grizzly Gasoline" in tan lettering on a navy blue background. The sticker measures 5 1/8" L x 3" W. The postcards and photos are from various locations around Montana with places such as: Big Sandy, MT, Bannack Ghost Town, Virginia City, Ennis, Fort Benton, outer limits of Great Falls, Old Town Great Falls, Central Ave in Great Falls, Parmly Billings Library, Episcopal Church in Sheridan, Ruby Hotel in Sheridan, and the Cheap Cash Store in Nevada City, Montana. Two postcards have been used, while the rest are blank. Some postcards are colored while some are black & white. The postcards show good condition with wear from their vintage age but are still in good display condition. The largest one measures 3 1/2" L x 5 1/2" W, while the smallest measures 3 1/4" L x 4 7/8" W.
