For your consideration is a lithograph printing of the 1924 photograph "Desert Cahuilla Home" by Edward S. Curtis. This beautiful image shows a home of the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians, made of a wooden frame of arrowweed, which is flexible and lends itself to the kish’s curved shape, forms the base of the structure. The Agua Caliente would have cut the slender twigs and stripped them of any protruding branches or leaves before inserting them into the ground and tying them together using rope made of plant fibers. Edward S. Curtis (1868-1952), between 1896 and 1930, photographed over 80 Indian tribes in North America and Alaska. Curtis published "The North American Indian", a series of 20 volumes documenting disappearing Indian lifestyles and customs. In 1930, the original copper photogravure plates become the property of Curtis' creditors, the printing companies and publishers he used—that is when many of these prints were made and sold. By 1981, "The Curtis Collection" owned the entire collection. This print is matted and professionally framed with a wood frame. The photo shows the title on the bottom left reading, "Desert Cahuilla Home" and right below the photo, it reads "From Copyright Photograph 1924 by E. S. Curtis". The photo and frame show good condition overall with some slight wear to the frame but no obvious signs of damage to the frame or photo are present. The visible photograph measures 7 1/8" L x 8 5/8" W, while the entire piece measures 11 1/8" L x 13 13/16" W x 1 1/16" D. The piece weighs approximately 1lb 10 oz.*
