Presented in this lot is an Outstanding Original Ted Flowers Silver Concho Parade Saddle Martingale Breast Collar in very high grade, circa 1945-1960. The saddle martingale breast collar is unmarked, as most all of his were, but features his distinct style. Ted Flowers (1914-1976) was a renowned craftsman famous for creating "blingy" parade saddles used by Hollywood legends and equestrians in prestigious events like the Rose Parades in Pasadena, California and Macy's Thanksgiving Day parades in New York City. Flowers was a prolific creator, sometimes described as a "Henry Ford" of ornate parade saddles, often producing sets for entire mounted sheriff's posses. Ted was one of the premier parade saddle makers of the 1930-1950’s with some of his customers being Roy Rogers and Gene Autry amongst other famous cowboys, and some of the saddles were part of the famous Sharkey's Nugget Casino Collection in Gardnerville, NV. Early examples from the 1930-1940’s were done on L.V. Frazier Farm and Home Supply Indianapolis, IN. In 1945 Ted started producing his own saddles, such as this amazing piece, in his Alexandria, Indian location, "The Spot Shop". The silversmithing, silver work is truly exceptional. From an Idaho Cowboy collection and rarely seen for sale. This martingale is similar to one previously sold for $2300 (w/ bp) at the North American Auction Spring Montana Western Antique Auction May 2022. This saddle martingale breast collar is heavily adorned with original hand engraved silver work, with diamond and triangular shaped conchos each having hand tooled finishes. Leather displays wear consistent with normal use and handling. Silverwork and leather exhibit rich patina throughout. Measures 25"W x 36"L, collective weight is 3lb, 4oz.
