Presented in this lot is a Rare Vintage C. G. Bonehill Oak Leather and Brass Gun Case, circa 1873 to 1921. Bonehill were a major gun maker in Birmingham, England, and produced guns ranging from sound middling quality up to very nearly "best". Their "Belmont Interchangeable" was one of the first quality shotguns to be made using what was known as "the American system"; all parts could be replaced without hand fitting. C G Bonehill was a Guardian of The Birmingham Proof House. In early 1880 Winchester entered into an agreement with Christopher G. Bonehill of Birmingham to produce double barrel shotguns bearing the name of the Winchester Repeating Arms Company. This oak leather gun case has a fitted interior is lined with red baize bearing paper label, "C. G. BONEHILL", Royal Warrant Coat of Arms noted at the top left corner. The printer's name, "Hudson & Kearns" is on the bottom left corner of the label. Red baize exhibits heavy wear, leather strap for securing stock and barrel displays wear. Exterior leather straps have been replaced, exterior leather is weathered and displays heavy wear. Brass plaque for engraving is blank. Brass corner caps, lock and hasp (no key included) display rich patina as does the leather throughout. Leather handle is weathered. Measures 8.25"W x 32.5"L x 3.25"D, weight is 6lb.
