Featured in this lot is this C. M. Russell framed reproduction painting on canvas from 1912 titled, "The Exalted Ruler". Charles Marion Russell (March 19, 1864 – October 24, 1926), also known as C. M. Russell, Charlie Russell, and "Kid" Russell, was an artist of the Old American West. Russell created more than 2,000 paintings of cowboys, Indians, and landscapes set in the Western United States and in Alberta, Canada, in addition to bronze sculptures. Known as 'the cowboy artist', Russell was also a storyteller and author. This painting depicts an elk a top a hill, surrounded by his herd. It is symbolic of the President of the Elks Club "The Exalted Ruler". On the left is the out-going "Exalted Ruler”, a big bull with a large rack. On the right is another bull with a rack who is next year’s "Exalted Ruler". Just to the left of this one is a bull with spike horns and is the future "Exalted Ruler". The painting is signed in the lower right reading, "To My Brothers, C.M. Russell 1912 ©". The painting is in good condition besides a small puncture in the canvas below the middle elk's antlers. The frame is in good condition and features a small metal plaque on the bottom reading, "The Exalter Ruler". The art measures 14 1/2" L x 19 1/2" W, while the entire piece measures 19 1/4" L x 24 1/2" W.
