This is an original circa 1870 stereoview photograph by C.R. Savage of Tower Rocks, Green River, Wyoming, Territory. Charles Roscoe Savage born 1832, died 1909 was a prominent photographer of the Western Landscape and her indigenous people. This stereoview (also known as a stereo view, stereoscopic, stereoscope) is marked on the front, "Union Pacific Railroad. Illustrated by C. R. Savage / Tower Rocks, Green River. Union Pacific Railroad. Illustrated by C. R. Savage." and on the back, "Photographic Scenes in Utah, Arizona, Montana, Idaho and Wyoming Territories, views of the most intresting points on the Union Pacific, Central Pacific, and Utah Central Railraods, Groups of Indians, and Portraits of teh Representative Men of Utah taken by C. R. Savage, Pioneer Art Gallery, East Temple St. Sale Lake City, Utah." along with "$200" in pencil. C.R. Savage stereoview photographs are highly collectible, as are images of Wyoming Territory, which at the time of taking this image was the heart of the Indian Wars. The image shows the towering rock formations along with three frontiersmen, one shooting a rifle. Some edge wear but displays well. Measures 6 7/8" by 3.5". U6.
