Featured in this lot is this C.S. Fly Imperial cabinet card of "Silver Creek ARMY Campp near Douglas" cabinet card circa 19th century; Provenance: From the Tombstone Western Heritage Museum in Tombstone, Arizona. The cabinet card features a wonderfully and professionally crafted construction that shows a camp of tents under a cluster of trees with the cavalrymen attending their horses on the picket line. The back of the cabinet card is marked as follows: Fly's Gallery - Tombstone, Ariz. - C.S. Fly, Proprietor - Silver Creek. Camillus "Buck" Sydney Fly (May 2, 1849 – October 12, 1901) was an Old West photographer who is regarded by some as an early photojournalist and who captured the only known images of Native Americans while they were still at war with the United States. He took many other pictures of life in the silver-mining boom town of Tombstone, Arizona, and the surrounding region. He recognized the value of his photographs to illustrate periodicals of the day and took his camera to the scenes of important events where he recorded them and resold pictures to editors nationwide. The cabinet card comes complete with an original museum tag that reads as follows: C.S. Fly photo of ARMY camp at Silver Creek near Douglas. The condition of this C.S. Fly cabinet card is well preserved with no obvious signs of damage and only shows light browning to the cabinet cards consistent with age. The measurements of this Imperial cabinet card is 5" x 8".
