This is a fabulous circa 1860-1870's Cheyenne quilled and beaded Indian hide strip likely intended for a blanket strip or war shirt from an ex-Cowans and March in Montana sale. The lot features an Indian tanned hide body adorned with porcupine quill quillwork and beadwork across the entire body and extensive quillwork fringes. The quillwork on the ends shows parfleche rawhide strips wrapped in quillwork with a tab or square design in colors of red, orange, yellow, indigo and purple. The beadwork shows colors of light blue, red white heart, cobalt and greasy yellow. There are bands of quillwork across the entire front of the body. Provenance: From an ex-Cowan's auction; From an ex-March in Montana auction; has an Antique Collections SI-150 SI-278 and NAA 520 older tags; From a prominent Bozeman, Montana collection. There is some slight quill loss, little to no bead loss, nice hide with some old repairs and some loss to the end fringes that are stiff. Both sinew and thread sewn. Measures overall 51-inches long by 3-inches wide.
