This is a fabulous collection of historic American West and Native American objects including a documented 1860 Sioux pipe (Lar Hothem published), Battle of the Little Bighorn Lakota Sioux or Cheyenne metal bracelets, historic paleo and antique projectile points from Mountrail and Morton counties in North Dakota, and a collection of early Northern Plains trade beads. The pipe dates to circa 1860’s from the Sioux of the Northern Plains in a “T” or “L” shape carved from pipestone catlinite with three engraved lines on the bottom. Noted as being from St. Paul, Minnesota and from the Cain collection. The pipe was documented / photographed in the following publications: Collectors Guide to Indian Pipes by Lar Hothem, on page 17; and North American Indian Artifacts by Lar Hothem 16th Edition on page 350. Lar Hothem (1938-2006) was a well-known expert with Indian artifacts and authored many books on the subject, totaling over 35 books and more than 700 articles. The points were collected in Mountrail and Morton counties in North Dakota; known for significant Indian history including Fort Berthold Reservation, Fort Laramie Treaty and the Mandan, Hidatsa, and Arikara tribes as well as Paleo and Archaic history. The neolithic to antique projectile points appear to include such points as the Oxbow, Swift Current Fishtail, Larter Tanged, Archaic Side Notch, Smantha Dart, and possibly Pelican Lake points. A total of nineteen (19) projectile points. The collection also includes three original metal bracelets from the Lakota Sioux or Cheyenne Native American Indians of the Northern Plains which were recovered from private property at the historic Battle of the Little Bighorn site. There are also six strands of antique Native American trade beads including carved bone hairpipe beads, wound glass red white hearts, wound glass green white hearts, wound glass yellow white hearts, wound glass cobalt beads and some white beads. Lastly thee piece is bordered by two nicely presenting Turkey Feathers. The entire piece is expertly arranged with a wonderful depth, fine collector notes, astounding matting and is professionally framed. Pipe itself is 4-inches by 2.5-inches and the frame is 20.75-inches by 16 5/8-inches by 2-inches.
