The lot features a circa 1870-1880’s Sioux beaded Indian hide parfleche lined sheath and unique trade knife from an ex-Cowan’s auction. The sheath is comprised of Indian tanned hide with parfleche rawhide lining and is sinew sewn, adorned with period correct glass trade seed beads in a classic Sioux geometric pattern. The beadwork shows colors of chalk white, cobalt, greasy yellow, black, red white heart, greasy green. The bottom had a fancy beaded fringe which became disconnected but is included and shown in the photos. The knife with the piece is a unique forged knife with steer horn handles secured with copper rivets. Provenance: Found to be authentic and sold by Cowan’s auction house with the tag included from a 2020 sale; from a prominent ex-Bozeman private collection who purchased the majority of his collection from Cowan's, Skinner, Bonhams, Morphy's, Sotheby's, March in Montana, North American Auction and other well revered auction houses. Sheath measures 13.5-inches by 3 3/8-inches wide, knife is 14.5-inches long.
