The lot features a beautifully colorful circa 1870-1880 Sioux quilled and beaded pipe bag from a prominent collection. The bag is comprised of Indian tanned hide with sinew sewing and is adorned with porcupine quill quillwork and period 19th century glass trade petite seed beads in an intricate and uniquely colorful geometric pattern. The bottom fringe show strips of parfleche rawhide that are artfully wrapped in porcupine quillwork with rare colors of green, red / orange, yellow and cream / white. The bag displays beautifully and is well kept.
Provenance: From a prominent ex-Bozeman private collection who purchased the majority of his collection from Cowan's, Skinner, Bonhams, Morphy's, Sotheby's, March in Montana, North American Auction and other well revered auction houses. Measures overall 29" x 7".
