This is an original circa 1870's walnut gambling steamboat poker table with original drop box; after its steamboat use it was used at the outlaw boom town of Beer City, Oklahoma at one of the saloons or gambling halls during the circa 1888-1880 land rush. The table shows a gambling felted top with nickel metal insert at the top with turned wood center post and carved legs. The table is a wonderful circa 1870's example with nice provenance from a Missouri River Steamboat circa 1870 and later Beer City, Oklahoma land boom. Beer City, Oklahoma was founded in 1888 in “No Man’s Land” as a cluster of white tents, which gave its original name, White City. Later the name was changed to “Beer City” due to the rowdiness of the townsfolk. At its peak Beer City had a handful of saloons, gambling houses, and brothels, being a boom town there was no law and the town was filled with outlaws. The most notorious outlaw being a lady who went by the name of “Pussy Cat Nell”. She ran and owned the “Yellow Snake Saloon” in town, most notably she and 14 other men, shot and killed a man with self-proclaimed title, “Sheriff Bush”, he had 74 gunshots in his body. In 1890, the town was included in the Oklahoma Territory, and ceased to exist. Today nothing remains, as it is a Ghost Town. Measures overall 44.25-inches in diameter by 29.5-inches high.
