The lot features a set of four Oak Douglas Steamboat Gambling Poker Table Chairs circa 1860-1880's; later the chairs were used at the outlaw boom town of Beer City, Oklahoma at one of the saloons or gambling halls during the circa 1888-1889 land rush. The quartet of oak chairs were used on a Steamboat Gambling parlor at a poker table, such as the previous lot in this auction. These chairs were later used at a Bear City, Oklahoma Saloon during the 1888-1889 land rush from the same collection as the Steamboat Poker Table. Beer City, Oklahoma was founded in 1888 in “No Man’s Land” as a cluster of white tents, which gave its original name, White City. Later the name was changed to “Beer City” due to the rowdiness of the townsfolk. At its peak Beer City had a handful of saloons, gambling houses, and brothels, being a boom town there was no law and the town was filled with outlaws. The most notorious outlaw being a lady who went by the name of “Pussy Cat Nell”. She ran and owned the “Yellow Snake Saloon” in town, most notably she and 14 other men, shot and killed a man with self-proclaimed title, “Sheriff Bush”, he had 74 gunshots in his body. In 1890, the town was included in the Oklahoma Territory, and ceased to exist. Today nothing remains, as it is a Ghost Town. The chairs each approximately measure
