Featured in this lot is this Sioux beaded Parfleche knife sheath and Indian trade knife circa 1870. The sheath is comprised of remnants of Parfleche Polychrome Painted envelope pieces with sinew sewing and Indian tanned hide front. The parfleche shows blue mineral pigment colored band on the back with a fully beaded face that shows iconic Sioux geometric patterns that include trade seed beads of the period that include: chalk white, medium blue, sky blue, Cheyenne pink, greasy green, and red white heart coloration. The knife sheath is sinew sewn and is construction that is constructed from the remnant of an older Parfleche envelope. The Indian trade knife shows a nice hand worn wooden handle with a full tang C. Russell & Co. trade knife and is marked on the blade with pewter inlay to the handle. The condition of this Sioux knife sheath and trade knife is well preserved with some wear to the Parfleche hide with some slight patina to the knife blade. The measurements of this knife in sheath is 10 1/8" x 3 1/8". Provenance: Authenticated and sold by Morphys auction and purchased by a high level collector in Bozeman, Montana.
