Featured in this lot is this Dakota Sioux sheath and scalping knife circa 1900-1920's. The knife and sheath features a wonderfully and professionally crafted Parfleche and Indian tanned hide construction that shows brass tacks lining the belt slit with trade seed beads adorning the left side of the sheath that shows coloration of translucent red, chalk white, greasy yellow, translucent blue, and sky blue coloration. The scalping knife shows a unique shape to the blade with a full tang showing a antler tine hand and a brass hilt. The condition of this Sioux sheath and scalping knife is preserved with some patina to the Parfleche hide and to the trade seed beads with the knife itself showing some oxidation to the blade but otherwise shows a preserved condition. The overall measurements of this scalping knife and sheath is 11 1/2" x 4". Provenance: From a prominent ex-Bozeman private collection who purchased the majority of his collection from Cowan's, Skinner, Bonhams, Morphy's, Sotheby's, March in Montana, North American Auction and other well revered auction houses. The scalping knife and sheath comes with a tag that reads: W. A. Kenoratings got this when he homesteaded in Dakota.
