The lot features an original circa 1879 New Jersey Warren County Land Deed with original large Plains Indian Ledger Art Drawings. The paperwork is for the sale of land in Warren County New Jersy totaling $5,126 in 1879 signed by Sheriff Benjamin F. Howry. When completely folded out the piece is hand drawn with pencil and colored pencil with a Buffalo / Bison kill scene, showing the Indian Warrior with several arrows in the three Buffalo standing with a coup stick in hand. Behind him is the war horse fully painted. There is a small snake in the bottom left corner, a signature of sorts. There are also many Sioux Ghost Dance symbols such as the crescent moon or half moon, four-point morning star with Maltese cross as well as a red eyed buffalo bison skull. The piece is from the same collection as the Blemmingham Ledger book collection, the very same as the 1890-1891 Buffalo Kill Ledger sold in 2022 by NAAC for $2,016 and the Ca. 1903- Plains Indian Ledger Art Land Deed piece that sold at our auction in 2024 for $3,276 (shown w/ bp). The original deed dates to circa 1903, the artwork appears to be of an older age but exact age is unknown. The document measures 26.5”L by 8.25”W when laid out (and 3.5” by 8.25” when folded up). One of the largest ledger arts from this collection we have offered.
