The lot features a Sioux patriotic U.S. Flag and geometric beaded and quilled pipe bag dating to circa 1880. The beadwork is all period early glass trade seed beads in colors of greasy yellow, red white heart, cobalt, chalk white, semi-transparent dark green, faceted metal. The bag is comprised of Indian tanned hide and is sinew sewn. The bag shows United States flags on both sides, an early example of patriotic beadwork. The fringes shows parfleche rawhide strips that are wrapped in porcupine quill quillwork in fine detail with a tab or box design in colors of red, blue and browns. The bag is very well kept and displays very well.
