Featured in this lot is this Sioux hairpipe dewclaw breast plate circa 1890 to 1930. The breast plate features a wonderfully and professionally crafted leather, hair pipe, trade bead, and deer dew claw construction that shows a female design with the loop being decorated around the neck of the individual. The entire breast plate is framed and strung on leather string with the coloration of the trade beads including sky blue and transparent red with dangles of deer dew claws at the bottom. The entirety of the breast plate is decorated with hair pipe beads held together with strips of thick leather and string. The condition of this Sioux breast plate is well preserved with some slight wear tot the leather frame of the breast collar but otherwise shows a well preserved condition. The measurements of this breast collar is 42 1/2" x 12 1/2". The collective weight of this breast plate is 4lb 8oz.
Provenance: From a prominent ex-Bozeman private collection who purchased the majority of his collection from Cowan's, Skinner, Bonhams, Morphy's, Sotheby's, March in Montana, North American Auction and other well revered auction houses.
