Presented in this lot is a early Brule Sioux, Salish and Flathead Indian Photograph Collection, circa 1880s. A truly impressive display of people who were directly involved in the the development of the Wild West. Forty-four silver albumen and silver gelatin print photos include: Brulé Sioux Chief Good Voice Eagle, Brulé Chief Hollow Horn Bear, Oglala Sioux Chief Sam Lone Bear, Brulé Sioux Chief Iron Shell. Additionally the last photograph appears to be two Potowatemi or Ojibwe men based on the beadwork of their clothing and jewelry. People identified are Good Voice Eagle, Mrs. Ernest Gone With & child, Prairie Dog, Crow Good Voice, Jake Fighting Bear, Henry Hollow Horn Bear, Sam Lone Bear (Ogalalla Sioux), Black Hawk & Wife, John & Henry Hollow Horn Bear, Iron Shell and wife, Sara Four Horns & Mrs. Scout. Eighteen (18) photographs of Flathead Reservation life. Good Voice Eagle was the best tracker of Gen. George Crook, Henry Hollow Horn Bear fought in many of the battles of the Sioux Wars, Iron Shell fought during the Powder River War of 1866-1868. Both Samuel Lone Bear and Jake Fighting Bear performed in Pawnee Bill's Wild West Show. The gray paper oblong photograph album is light blue cord threaded with front cover stamped "Photographs", edges scuffed, slight staining. Photos exhibit age tanning consistent with age. Album measures 4.25"W x 10"L, photos are 3"W x 3.25"L approximately.
