The lot features four original Sioux metal tip arrows with sinew sewing and painted features dating to late 19th century to early-to-mid 20th century from the ex-C.M. Russell Museum Great Falls, Montana and John Kleinschmidt collections. The four arrows all have solid wooden shafts with integral carved nocks all having feather fletching which are sinew sewn with red, yellow and green ocher mineral pigment painted bands. The shafts have zig-zag snake or river incised designs and on the ends sheet iron metal arrow heads which are secured with sinew sewing. The set is well kept with some patina coloring, but mostly in fine unused condition.
Provenance: From the John Kleinschmidt collection which was on loan to the C.M. Russell Museum from 1987 to 1993 and included in the "The Cowboy West: 100 Years of Photography 1992-1993 exhibit. Catherine A. O'Dell. An attached museum tag (one on each arrow) reads, "1396-87 O'Dell". Each measures approx.. 27-inches long with the largest arrowhead protruding from the shaft about 3.75-inches. These were on display at the C.M. Russell museum.
