This is an extremely rare and desirable circa 1890’s Adams and Westlake Railroad Dining Car wall sconce oil lamp / light. This lamp and the next lot are some of the only examples in this configuration, showing the brass wall mounted plaque with the lamp oil reservoir sliding into it and the brass Victorian shade arm above mounted to the plate. The oil lamp has the original removable reservoir which twists into the body as well as the threaded glass oil holder below the lamp. The lamp has the original tag which reads, “The Adams & Westlake Co. Patented May 6 90 Chicago”. The light would have held a porcelain enamel metal shade which held into place with the threaded internal piece, which is still present. The only similar example in shape to this is the Adams and Westlake railroad dining car chandelier hanging light which shows a double set of this light. This light and the next light are the only examples of the dining light with shade arm that mounts to the wall. Measures 22.25-inches high by 5 3/8-inches wide by 13.25-inches deep (off the wall).
