This is a stunning circa 1890-1910’s Navajo Crystal J.B. Moore Plate XXV rug woven by Navajo Yeh-Del-Spah-Bi-Mah from the ex-collection of Bruce VanLandingham Sundog Gallery / Museum and a New York City gallery. See “The Navajo” by J.B. Moore Crystal, N.M. 1911 catalog Plate XXV Page 18, this is a variant of this representation of rug identified by the gallery. This example and the published plate example both show a large central diamond motif framed in Greek or Persian hooked swirls inside a rectangular motif framed in a red pattern with additional Greek or Persian hooked swirls. This is likely the earliest and most detailed example of a J.B. Moore with the hooked accents ever offered for public sale. The rug exhibits all natural hand spun wool with mostly natural vegetal dye wool, showing a wonderful variation in the coloring throughout, indicating it was hand dyed by the weaver themselves. The weaving is very tightly and finely woven with various lazy lines being seen throughout and rich coloring. The rug is even on both sides with NO A/B. Provenance: From the renowned Bruce VanLandingham Sundog Gallery and Museum collection from Bozeman, Montana. Bruce VanLandingham was a pillar in the American Indian collecting community and a respected expert. Along with being an avid collector, Bruce also was the sole owner of Sundog Fine Art Gallery in Bozeman, which was both part museum and gallery. Also from an ex-New York City gallery collection. This is likely the best representation of the “T” Greek hook geometric design heavily influencing a rug. The condition of this Navajo Klagetoh rug is good the tassels missing off of all four corners of the rug but otherwise shows good overall condition. The measurements of this rug is 84" x 51 1/2".
