Featured in this lot is this Navajo Transitional Spider Woman Crosses blanket circa 1890. The blanket features a wonderfully and professionally crafted wool construction that shows a Transitional design with stepped decoration and multiple Spider Woman Crosses throughout the blanket with banded decoration ending the pattern before the field. The Spider Woman Cross is a traditional Native American symbol originating from Diné (Navajo) and Hopi mythologies. The condition of this Navajo blanket is preserved with some wear to parts of the blanket consistent with its age and the corners show the weave coming apart in places. The measurements of this blanket is 43 1/2" x 71".
