The lot features a fantastic circa 1900-1930's Blackfeet / Blackfoot Indian tanned hide beaded pipe bag / tobacco bag. The bag exhibits a traditional pipe bag pattern with logn stove pipe like upper bag and beaded lower section with thin Indian hide fringes below. The top of the bag shows four rounded tabs, mostly seen on Cheyenne examples and typical referred to by collectors as Four-Tab bags. The bag was likely made by a Blackfeet / Blackfoot woman who spent some time with the Cheyenne. The bag shows a Maltese cross like stepped pattern on one side and repetative geometric pattern on the other, all done in early 1900's glass trade seed beads. The beadwork includes colors of greasy yellow, Cheyenne pink, greasy blue, rose, chalk white in petit seed, greasy green, , greasy light sky or padre blue and a bright blue. The outside edge and top four-tabs are all bordered with a chalk white fancy beaded design. The bag was found to be an authentic Blackfeet early 1900 / second quarter 1900 example by the experts at Cowan's Hindman. The bag shows cotton trade thread sewing. Little bead loss, mostly shown with supple hide with the top being partially stiff. Measures overall 23.5"H by 5.5"W with an additional 10"L belt tie. Has a cardboard lining on the inside of the bag for display. Total weight of 8 oz.
