The lot features a set of twelve circa 1900 Buffalo Bill Heroes of the West French Pulp Magazines. These William F. “Buffalo Bill” Cody magazines include issue numbers 34,38, 40, 43, 44, 45, 46, 47, 48, 50, 51, and 110. These “Buffalo Bill Stories” were a weekly publication of pulp magazine printed and distributed in Paris, France (published by Street & Smith in New York). These date around 1900 and are only editions authorized by Cody himself, according to the sub-title on each issue. Each issue has a chromolithograph cover illustrating some aspect of the featured story. The colorful imagery shows desirable images of the west include Buffalo Bill driving a stagecoach, coming onto a wagon accident, stopping a hanging, W.F. Cody in a shootout and more. The titles include: Serpent Sauvage, I’Indien cheyenne; Les Voleurs de Filles; Les Loup de la Prairie; Buffal Bill in Zigzag Canyon or Fighting Red Hugh’s Band; Buffalo Bill’s Red Allies or Hand to Hand with the Devil Gang; Buffalo Bill in the Bad Lands or Trailing the Veiled Squaw; Buffalo Bill’s Trail of the Ghost Dancers or The Sioux Chief’s Secret; Buffalo Bill’s Deadliest Deal or The Doomer Desperadoes of Satan’s Mine; Buffalo Bill’s Secret or The Trail of a Traitor; Buffalo Bill’s Brother in Buckskin or The Redskin Lariat Rangers; Buffalo Bill’s Trail of the Man Tigers or The Doom of the Branded Hand; and Buffalo Bill’s Hard Night’s Work or Captain Coolhand’s Kidnapping Plot. These are highly desirable with beautiful original artwork and stories from Buffalo Bill, selling for has high as the set sold by Heritage Auction in their June 2014 sale for $1,250.
