The lot features an original, scarce Buffalo Bill’s Wild West and Congress of Rough Riders of the World show program from their season in France circa 1900. Most examples in this form are from circa 1905, with this having the imagery of Chief Joseph on age 34, before his death in September 1904. The frunt shows a striking colorful image of Buffalo Bill Cody wearing his buckskin coat atop his horse with the US and French flags in the background. The front of the Programme Officiel cover is marked, " Buffalo Bill's Wild West - 50 Centimes. - Depose. - The Particton Advertising Cie 14 Rue LaFayette, Paris 171 Strand London, W.C." The original authentic program shows various illustrations and photographs throughout with various aspects of the show including many showing Buffalo Bill himself. The program shows some signs of wear indicative of its early age. Both title pages are present with the second by A. Srahia being a stunning image of Col. W.F. Cody Buffalo Bill with a buffalo / bison head above and a drawing of a buffalo hunt in the background. The inside shows artwork, etchings and photographs of the West including that of Chief Joseph, Gall, Sitting Bull with Buffalo Bill, Johnny Baker with his Winchester, President Teddy Roosevelt as a soldier, Curly as well as General Custer, Colonel Reno and Captain Benteen. The piece measures 7 3/8"x9.5". Only example from the French season circa 1900 available. Believed to be a complete piece. Back shows an advertisement for Voici Le Vrai Sandow Paris.
