The lot features two Sioux miniatures, one beaded buffalo / steer skull and one war / dance drum, from the Duhamel Trading Post in Rapid City, South Dakota dating to circa 1907-1920’s. Both pieces are from the Sioux at Pine Ridge Indian Reservation. The Duhamel Trading Post was established in Rapid City, South Dakota in 1907 by Pete Duhamel, born in 1839 in Canada and moved to Rapid City, Dakota Territory in 1879. A digital photograph is shown in the description of the inside of Duhamel Trading Post with the walls lined with Indian wares such as Indian blankets, rugs, sculpture, beadwork, leather goods and more. First is the Buffalo / Bison or Steer / Bull skull miniature which is made from glass trade seed beadwork over a bone vertebra over a trade muslin being trade thread sewn. Next is a war drum or dance drum which is comprised of a carved wood hoop stretched with rawhide parfleche and held in place with spikes of wood. The beadwork of the skull shows a greasy white, greasy corn yellow, cobalt, sky padre blue and medium green. From the Duhamel Trading Post and Pine Ridge Indian Reservation from the Sioux circa 1907-1920’s. Skull measures 3.5”W by 1 5/8”. The drum measures 2.5” diameter by 7/8”H.
