This is an original Edward Sheriff Curtis (1868-1952) photogravure on Japanese Vellum titled, "The Hunting Basket" dated 1924. The piece is marked in the artwork, " The Hunting Basket * / From Copyright Photograph 1924 by E.S. Curtis". Edward Sherriff Curtis was an American photographer and ethnologist whose work focused on the American West and on Native American people. This is a fantastic image showing a fine basket with outstanding detail. The piece is professionally framed and matted. The visible art area measures 7-inches by 8.75-inches and the frame is 16.5-inches 17.75-inches by 1-inches thick. Interestingly when Vogt Auction sold the lifetime collection of the famous Texas author of Lonesome Dove, Larry McMurtry they sold one of these Hunting Basket images for $1,500 (w/ bp) on May 2023 of the same size.
