The lot features a fantastic vintage pawn chip inlaid turquoise and coral sterling silver watch cuff bracelet from circa 1970’s. The bracelet shows a peyote water bird design running down both sides inlaid with chip turquoise and coral and is signed on the bottom with a large “K” Zuni jewelry is a style of Native American jewelry from the Zuni Pueblo in New Mexico, known for its intricate lapidary work, particularly inlays of small, precisely cut stones. Key characteristics include inlay, where stones fill a geometric pattern, and the techniques of needlepoint, using tiny, pointed stones, and petit point, using tiny rounded stones, which create a delicate and detailed appearance. Zuni jewelry is known for its high level of detail and meticulous craftsmanship, with each inlay chip carefully cut, shaped, and set. The peyote bird, also known as the water bird, and represents renewal of life, rain, rivers, and distant travel/vision. Its symbolism is tied to peyote ceremonies and can be seen in art, such as earrings, where the shape of the bird can also correspond to elements of the ceremony itself. The symbol is widely used in Native American art, particularly in jewelry made by artists from various tribes, including Zuni artists who helped popularize it in the 1960s. The condition of this watch band is good with rich patina adorning the bracelet denoting some age but otherwise in good overall condition.
