Featured in this lot is this Hopi "Wolfman or Kweo" Kachina doll circa 1950's. This Kachina doll features a wonderfully and professionally crafted wooden, hide, trade sting, shell, and rabbit fur construction that depicts traditional imagery with a painted body of geometric shapes on a white platform. The traditional wolf mask is shows present with open maw and shell eyes and the adornments throughout the Kachina wardrobe includes painted shells throughout. The bottom of the Kachina is marked as follows: "Wolfman" - Smith. The significance of this Kachina represents a hunter who guides, protects, and brings good fortune, often linked to the Wolf spirit (Maii/Ma'i) in Hopi Indian Folklore Tradition. The condition of this Kachina man is preserved with slight repairs to the ears and to the dancing globe in his left hand and the dancing wand in his right hand has been broken off but otherwise shows a preserved overall condition. The measurements of this Kachina doll is 21 1/4" x 10 1/4" x 7 1/4". The collective weight of this Kachina doll is 1lb 12oz.
