For your consideration an Original Navajo Diné Buffy Sam "Buffalo Dancer" War Bonnet, circa late 20th century. Entirely hand-made, the headdress features a wonderfully and professionally crafted trade cloth construction featuring Turkey feathers, marabou feathers, horsehair, fur, leather and trade seed beads of black, white and red. Buffy Sam is a contemporary Navajo Diné artist known for handcrafting Native American headdresses and war bonnets. Sam's headdresses are typically designed for ceremonial use or meaningful home display. Traditionally, each feather in a war bonnet is earned through acts of bravery or leadership. While Buffy Sam is Navajo, the "war bonnet" style is traditionally associated with Plains Indian Tribes like the Sioux, Cheyenne, and Crow. The condition of this headdress is good with no obvious signs of damage and shows good overall condition. The measurements of this headdress opened up is 40" diameter, collective weight is 1lb.
