Featured in this lot we have a cast iron Tammany mechanical bank originating from 1873. The bank is made of cast iron in the shape of a portly gentleman sitting in a chair. The figure is shown in a suit with a open slot just above his right arm. The right arm is set on a swivel so if you put a coin in its right hand it will deposit the coin in the slot. The piece is marked in a number of places, the back is marked "Patd Dec 23 1873", "Hall R Pat" on the chair on the figures right side , and "Tammany Bank" on the chair on its left side. The bottom of the chair, on the coin retrieval hatch its marked "Patd June 1873" in faded lettering. The piece is in good condition for its age with some wear on the paint in places. The bank measures 5 3/4" tall by 3 1/2" wide by 4 1/4" deep.
