Offered in this lot is a lithograph of a photograph by Edward Curtis (1868-1952) in the early 1900's "Cayuse Woman on Horseback". The Cayuse woman is shown wearing a beaded buckskin dress. Her horse has long fringe and beaded trappings. Edward Curtis was an American photographer and ethnologist whose work focused on the American West and on Native American people. The Cayuse are a Native American tribe in what is now the state of Oregon. They lived near territory of the Nez Perce and had close relationship with them. Like the Plains tribes, the Cayuse placed value on warfare and skilled horsemanship. They developed the Cayuse pony. This lithograph is in good condition in a wooden frame that shows age, wear, and cosmetic damage. The lithograph measures 12 1/2" x 9" and the frame measures 18 1/2" x 14 3/4".
