This lot includes a beautifully framed and two-sided collection of twenty-five (25) "Celebrated Indian Chiefs" trading cards by Allen & Ginter Cigarettes, 1988. Issued originally in 1888 by the Allen & Ginter Tobacco Co., reissiued 100 years later as a limited edition. This is the first half of the anniversary issue. These are official authorized vintage re-issues using original printing plates- Not unauthorized poor quality reproductions! They just changed the back so people do not try to pass them off as the originals. Trade cards, or sometimes called tobacco cards, or cigarette cards, were cards issued in tobacco packets, cigarettes, bread, tea, chocolates, etc. usually once a week, to get you to keep buying the product to get the whole set. You had to get the entire set of 50 to complete - and you were not even sure which set the card was going to be in! Of the more than 20,000 different Trade Card Sets ever issued, the 2 most popular of all time are the Copes Golfers, and this one, the Allen & Ginter Celebrated American Indian Chiefs. Each card measures 1-1/2” x 2-3/4” with a striking, full color lithographic image of a different Native American leader. Card backs have the cigarette company’s name and logo, and a checklist. Bottom of each card says, 'A Nostalgia Reprint'
