This is an original Charles Chief Eagle Oglala Sioux fully beaded bonnet dating to circa 1990. Charles Chief Eagle beadwork from the circa 1990's is iconic with examples being in the Minneapolis Institute of Art, Heritage Center Permanent Collection, and in the Indian Arts and Crafts Act publication. The piece consist of Indian tannede hide with red ribbon front and ties along with a floral clothe inner lining. The entire outside of the bonnet / head covering is covered in glass trade seed beads in Charles Chief Eagle's iconic running horses pattern. The piece has a light blue background with horses in colors of white, butterscotch, red, cobalt, brown, blue and green. The piece is in very good condition with little to no bead loss, soft hide and clean fabric. Provenance: From the renowned Sundog Fine Art Bozeman, Montana collection by Bruce VanLandingham. Bruce VanLandingham was a pillar in the American Indian collecting community and a respected expert. Along with being an avid collector, Bruce was also the sole owner of Sundog Fine Art Gallery in Bozeman, which was both part museum and gallery, this piece is directly from the collection.
