Featured in this lot is a bronze sculpture called "Medaille D'or," from French artist, Charles Paillet, who was born in 1871 and died in 1937. This old sculpture has a wonderfully and professionally crafted bronze construction. The bronze features an elegant depiction of a European stag softly walking forward over a log on the forest floor. The base of the sculpture is marked as follows: Ch. Paillet - Medaille D'or (means Gold Medal). Charles Paillet was born in Nievre, France, on March 31, 1871. He studied sculpture under Georges Gardet. Paillet's first exhibit was in the Salon of 1897 and he exhibited regularly until 1921. Most of his works were cast by the foundry Thiebault Freres, using both the lost wax and the sand-cast method. A few of his works have been recorded bearing the F. Barbedienne foundry mark also. Charles Paillet, Georges Gardet, Rene Paris, as well as others make up the second generation of Animalier sculptros and exhibited their works between the great period of animal bronzes and the art deco period that was to replace the naturalistic Animalier style. The overall condition of this bronze sculpture is good with no obvious signs of damage. The measurements of this bronze sculpture are 23 1/2" x 18 1/4" x 6 1/4".*
