Featured in this lot is a bronze sculpture called "Nomad of the Plains" from Montana artist, Gordon Monroe, circa 1982. The sculpture features a wonderfully and professionally crafted bronze construction. The bronze shows a Native man dressed in traditional garments with a bow and quiver of arrows strung on his back and holding a spear with a tomahawk on his hip. The bronze is marked as follows: 82 - 13/40 - Gordon Monroe - Bronze - "Plains Nomad". Monroe worked for Robert Scriver, the late sculptor, from 1965 to 1972. After leaving, he worked at the Blackfeet Community Free School, teaching art. The Free School was a cultural phenomenon in the 1970s, featuring a host of opportunities for young artists to explore new areas of expression. Returning to Scriver, Monroe contracted some of Robert's works including the bull rider in front of the Heritage Center and a bronc rider behind the building. Some of his other works are on display in Great Falls, MT. Some of his works represent real-life views of Monroe's world, as he remembers seeing it as a child. They were all made in the 1980s and were at the Native American Museum of Art in Spokane, before the institution closed. Later, the works were donated to the Blackfeet Tribe. The overall condition of this mounted bronze sculpture is good with no obvious signs of damage. The measurements of this mounted bronze sculpture are 20 3/4" x 12 1/2" x 8 3/4".*
