This is an excellent fully beaded papoose cradleboard cover from the Cheyenne Native American Indians and dating to the 19th Century. The 1800's piece shows a trade clothe wool blanket base and striped calico trade clothe construction that is fully covered on the top in 1800’s period correct glass trade seed beads in a traditional geometric pattern. The beadwork shows a Cheyenne pink background with rope fancy beaded edge and blue diamond patterns. The front has a wonderful bifurcated tongue fringe down the center which is also accented by long rope beaded side fringe all having a trade of red ocher mineral pigment dye. The fringe is beaded with Cheyenne pink, greasy yellow, semi-transparent green and a fancy edge of rose and green. The end of the fringe shows four rolled tin period correct jingle cones. The piece shows a combination of sinew and trade thread sewn construction and overall is very well preserved with little bead loss. This is truly a well museum quality craftsmanship. Provenance: From a large American Indian collection in Minden, Nevada. The piece measures overall 15.25”L x 7”W x 4.5”H.
