The lot features an excellent fully beaded flat bag attributed to the Cheyenne Native American Indians and dating to circa 1890. The bag was said to be crafted to hold the Ration Ticket's that were issued from the Lame Deer Agency in the late 19th Century. The Lame Deer Indian Agency Reservation was located in Lame Deer, Montana and was established a few years after the federal government created the Northern Cheyenne Reservation in 1884. The bage shows a heavy trade clothe muslim construction with velvet lining. The entire bag is covered in excellent authentic period correct geometric pattern beadwork with both glass trade seed beads and glass trade pony beads. The beadwork is done in greasy yellow, chalk white, corn yellow, butterscotch yellow, sky padre blue, semi-transparent blue, semi-transparent red, semi-transparent rose, semi-transparent amber, and semi-transparent medium green. The top of the bag shows two wound glass sand beads and the base shows thin fringe having wound glass large pony beads. The bag dates to circa 1890 and is truly a wonderful piece of American Indian history. The piece shows some bead loss and wear indicative of its early age, but overall is in fine museum quality conidtion. Provenance: From a large American Indian and Cowboy antiquities collection in Billings, Montana and was said to have been looked over by an Early American Indian expert and found to be correct. The bag measures 4.25" x 6". Only one other rations card or ticket beaded bag has sold in this fine of condition and quality in prior years with it selling over $3,500. Two images of ration cards or ration tickets are shown for example and ARE NOT INCLUDED. The ration card images are from the North Dakota Historical Society and the Canton Asylum for Insane Indians.
