This is an exceptionally artful fully top beaded knife sheath attributed to the Cheyenne Native American Indians accompanied by a fine circa 1870-1880 bone handled trade knife. The trade knife shows a fine large blade with a heavier construction than most kitchen knives of the period and a wonderful set of carved bone grips that are held into place with two brass tacks. The grips appear to tightly fit into the iron hilt and pommel frame of the handle. The knife does not appear to be marked. The sheath shows an Indian tanned hide construction over parfleche rawhide with glass trade seed beads in a traditional 19th Century Cheyenne bar design or style. The beadwork shows chalk white, greasy yellow, black, sky padre blue, and semi-transparent red. At the center of the piece shows eight rolled tin jingle cones, with a few missing as shown. The back side of the sheath shows a worn or darker patina. The sheath shows the correct stylings of a 19th Century piece, but its age is unknown. Overall the piece measures 9.75‰ÛL x 3‰ÛW.
