This is an original, large bronze sculpture of the prominent Shoshone leader, “Washakie” by the late, great artist Peter Fillerup (American, 1953-2016). Washakie (1804/1810-1900) was an important Shoshone Chief during the mid-1800’s. In 1851, at the urging of trapper Jim Bridger, Washakie led a band of Shoshones to the council meetings of the Treaty of Fort Laramie, being considered the leader of the Eastern Shoshones. The bronze is a very large size measuring 31-inches in height and __ pounds in weight. The bronze is signed, “Peter Fillerup 1999 3/20”. The bronze shows Washakie, the War Chief in full regalia wearing a feathered headdress trailing down his entire back to the ground while holding a war lance spear and “T” smoking pipe as well as a buffalo / bison skull at his feet. Peter M. Fillerup (September 4, 1953 - August 2016) was an American sculptor from Cody, Wyoming. He was trained by Utah sculptor Avard Fairbanks. He designed a sculpture of Porter Rockwell, who served on the Council of Fifty, as well as lighting fixtures for 20 LDS temples, including the Payson Utah Temple and the Lima Peru Temple. In 1997, he designed the Hilda Erickson Memorial Statue, a public statue in memory of all American pioneers in Grantsville, Utah. The artist is immensely renowned for his standing Native American bronze sculptures and bronze chandeliers depicting the West. The condition of this bronze is good sculpture is good with no obvious signs of damage and shows good overall condition. For sale reference of Peter’s bronze sculptures see; the bronze sculpture chandelier sold by our company NAAC in January 2023 for $32,760 (w/ bp) and the bronze sculpture titled, “Fanning A Twister – Steamboat” sold by Jackson Hole Art Auction in 2013 for $14,400 (w/ bp). The measurement of this bronze sculpture is 31-inches in height with a base that is 13-inches by 14-inches. Previously valued at $25,000.
