Featured in this lot are two Native American turtle shell pieces from the Northern Plains Native Americans circa 20th Century. This lot features a beautiful turtle shell rattle made by Saginaw Chippewa Tribe member and artist Jim Bailey, and a carefully crafted turtle shell bag. The turtle shell rattle shows a full turtle shell with amazing natural coloring holding various old stones in the center for rattling purposes held together with parfleche rawhide wrappings and hide glue onto a solid wood handle. The handle is wrapped in White Tail Deer tanned hide, showing an almost white color. The turtle shell bag shows beautiful natural coloring and designs on the shell. It is adorned with rawhide strips and a long, braided shoulder strap. A small flap hangs over the opening of the bag to secure the contents placed inside. The turtle shell bag and rattle both show good condition overall with little to no wear present and no signs of obvious damage is noted. The bag measures 4 1/4" L x 3 7/8" W x 1 3/4" D, with the shoulder strap measuring 19 3/4" in length. The rattle measures 13 1/4" L x 4 1/4" W x 1 7/8" D. The two pieces have a collective weight of 10 ounces.
